FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The escalating costs involved with attending Monday night's BCS National Championship Game should provide a valuable lesson to those fans who waited until the day of the game to purchase a ticket:

Always plan ahead.

Largely thanks to the nature of the championship game itself and the tradition of its two participants, Notre Dame and Alabama, fans still in the market for tickets will need to pay in upward of thousands of dollars for a seat inside Sun Life Stadium.

As of noon on Monday, the cheapest individual ticket on StubHub.com cost $870. (The ticket was in the upper corner of the northeast section of the stadium, one of the farthest points from the field.) A pair of tickets in a similar seating area would cost a buyer $1,800.

An individual standing-room only ticket inside Club Liv, an area of Sun Life Stadium behind the southwest end zone, is going for $3,900 on StubHub.com. A single ticket in section 142, which is roughly along the 50-yard line, would cost $3,805 – and there are six available, so purchasing all six would cost nearly $23,000.

Even parking at Sun Life Stadium will set you back. Parking passes on StubHub.com are going for as much as $500, if you wish to get as close to the stadium as possible.

In comparison, one could have purchased Alabama season tickets (seven games) for $395.
