Mikel Arteta has warned Arsenal fans they may have to wait until the last minute for new names to arrive this summer.

The Gunners have yet to make a splash in the current transfer window, having had a bid of £40m plus £1 for Luis Suarez rejected by Liverpool, while links with Wayne Rooney and Cesc Fabregas have remained purely speculative.

Arsenal's reported pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain came to nothing when the striker left Real Madrid to join Napoli, but Arteta has pleaded for the club's supporters to be patient with manager Arsene Wenger.

"It will happen," declared the midfielder in the Daily Mirror, whose £10m move from Everton happened on transfer deadline day in August 2011.

"I have no doubts about it. It takes time but I know the boss is working really hard on it, and the board as well. It will happen for sure.

"I am very convinced but the great players normally come at the end of the transfer window. The clubs work hard to keep their best players and I think Arsenal will do well in the transfer window.

"I think we are going to start the season with new faces. That is what we are all hoping for. That will give us a big boost and everyone is very positive.

"We need to close the gap with the teams that are trying to win the titles. We have been too far in the last few seasons. We will start and see how it goes. We won't be as far this season."
