The Chiefs retained their Super Rugby crown in Hamilton
The Chiefs completed a sensational second-half comeback against the Brumbies in Hamilton on Saturday to retain the Super Rugby title.
Entering as defending champions, the Waikato-based franchise found themselves 16-9 down at the interval before a resilient performance saw them triumph 27-22.
Australian centre Christian Leali'ifano took centre stage for the majoriity of the match, scoring all 22 points for the Brumbies as the Canberra-based outfit took a commanding lead.
The 26-year-old produced a peerless kicking display as well as scoring the lone Brumbies try as his side took command of the contest.
Aaron Cruden's kicking performance had been off-colour for the majority of the match, but Brumbies indiscipline presented him with several opportunities to keep the Chiefs in the running.
The Chiefs then raced through the gears in the second period and were duly rewarded when Liam Messam and Robbie Robinson powered over the line as the hosts became only the fourth side to retain the Super Rugby crown.
