Kagawa vows to fight for his place at United

Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa has vowed to fight for his place at Manchester United even though he has not featured in any of the club's Premier League matches this season.

The 24-year-old arrived in Japan on Monday ahead of international friendlies against Guatemala and Ghana, desperately short of playing time under new manager David Moyes.

But asked whether he would be staying at Old Trafford, Kagawa, reportedly the subject of interest from his former club Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, said "Yes that's right".

"Tough times are continuing, but all I can do is to work hard," he added, according to news reports on Tuesday.

Using the hashtag #freeshinji, Dortmund fans took to Twitter to urge the Champions League finalists to re-sign Kagawa, who helped them win back-to-back Bundesliga titles before securing a move to Old Trafford in 2012.

The attacking midfielder has not played in any of Manchester United's three league games this season and will face even tougher competition for a first team place after the club signed Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini from Everton.

Asian champions Japan face Guatemala on Friday at Nagai Stadium in Osaka, home of Kagawa's former club Cerezo Osaka, before a friendly against Ghana in Yokohama on September 10.
