Freddie Burns: made his debut in win over All Blacks
Freddie Burns is relishing the chance to stake his claim for the England No 10 shirt in the Six Nations. The 22-year-old Gloucester player was one of three fly-halves named in England's 33-man elite squad on Wednesday, along with Owen Farrel and Toby Flood. All three have realistic claims to start against Scotland at Twickenham on February 2, but Burns is delighted to just be in the mix. He impressed on debut in a 20-minute cameo in November's famous victory over the All Blacks at Twickenham and is hoping that can be the launchpad to more honours. He told Sky Sports: "I am really looking forward to getting down there and working hard with the squad and hopefully having a successful Six Nations. "It can only mean well for everone, pushing each other. I just want to get in with the squad and train hard. Hopefully I can push and be around that match-day 23 as much as possible. I have got my work cut out but it is a challenge I am willing to accept. "I'm hugely excited. I played with a lot of the boys through the age groups; U18, U20s and the talent that is in the squad is impressive. Just to be on board for the journey to the 2015 World Cup is something that excites me a great deal."
