Manchester United lead the chase for PSV star Kevin Strootman, who is closing in on a move to the Premier League, according to talkSPORT.

Reports in Italy claim Strootman is close to agreeing an £18m move to an unnamed Premier League club. The Holland international has been strongly linked with United for the past few months.

Arsenal and Liverpool are also reportedlyinterested in Strootman, while AC Milan are thought to be tracking developments, but talkSPORT claim United are in pole position to bring the Dutchman to Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old is a box-to-box midfielder, and highly rated in the Eredivisie - Strootman was named stand-in Holland captain last year when Wesley Sneijder missed out through injury.

PSV are thought to be keen to keep hold of the talented young midfielder, but the report claimsthey would consider selling for the right price.

TalkSPORT suggest £18m could be enough to tempt PSV to the negotiating table, but it remains to be seen whether United are prepared to stump up that amount.

Still, the Old Trafford club now lead the chase for Strootman, who has admitted in the past that it is an honour to be linked with the Red Devils.

The Premier League leaders sit seven points clear atop the table, but Ferguson is thought to privately see the central midfield region as a potential area of weakness.

Michael Carrick has enjoyed a good season so far, and Tom Cleverley has shown encouraging signs of development, but Strootman would add extra quality to a crucial area of the pitch for
