Cal Hosts Arizona in PAC Play Saturday World Rugby Shop

California returns to Witter Rugby Field this weekend to begin a three-match homestand when it hosts Arizona Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m. in PAC Rugby Conference play.

The Golden Bears, coming off their 75-22 win at UCLA last Saturday, enter this match at 12-0 overall and 2-0 in PAC play, while the Wildcats are 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Arizona defeated San Diego State, 34-19, early in the season and most recently dispatched Air Force, 46-28. Their PAC Rugby opener was against Utah, which beat the Wildcats, 41-10.

The 'Cats, who feature an All-American at No. 8 in senior Nick Svob, were blanked by the Bears in their last meeting at Kino Stadium in Tucson on Feb. 3, 2012. Arizona has a win over Cal in its all-time history, having beaten the Bears, 6-3, in the semifinals of the 1986 San Diego Invitational Tournament.

Head coach Jack Clark will be dialing up lineups for Saturday's Starting XV and reserve-grade contests with two future fixtures in mind. A rare edition of "Monday Night Rugby" takes place under the lights on March 4 at 6 p.m. with an even rarer regular-season opponent, the Penn State Nittany Lions. Forty-eight hours later, Cal will host James Madison University in the first-ever meeting between the two squads in another 6 p.m. night game Wednesday, March 6, on Witter Rugby Field.
