Cesc Fàbregas scored his first hat trick as a FC Barcelona player on Saturday, against RCD Mallorca. The midfielder once against played in the ‘false 9’ position, in Leo Messi’s stead. Despite his three goals, Cesc noted that “I don’t believe this was my best match, but in football what matters are the goals.” On the position he played in, he said, “I’m comfortable playing that role, but that position belongs to the best player in the world. I’m a midfielder.”
Abidal great victory
When asked about Éric Abidal’s return to competitive play, Cesc said, “today’s was the the greatest victory we’ve had all season because of Éric’s return.” He added: “it’s a moment that he can enjoy it in person. Seeing the emotion on his face when he came out onto the pitch was priceless.”
Cesc also gave his opinion on how the team performed this evening against Mallorca. From the first minute the Blaugrana showed their superiority and the victory was decisive. “We scored early, we saw what we had to do and the fans had a good time,” he said. His connection with Alexis - the Chilean scored two goals - was crucial in Mallorca’s demise. “With Alexis things are easy, he’s a player that has a lot of qualities,” said Cesc.
Dos Santos, pleased to get playing time
One of the happiest players after the match against Mallorca was Jonathan dos Santos. The Mexican, who played against his brother Giovani on Saturday, said that “I’m pleased that I got playing time. I train as hard as I possibly can to get chances.”
The La Masia graduate added: “the most important thing is Abidal’s return, he deserves it.” - Abidal's return
