Conor O'Shea: Disappointed for his Quins skipper
Harlequins director of rugby Conor O'Shea has expressed his surprise and disappointment at Chris Robshaw's omission from the Lions squad.
The Quins and England captain missed out on a place in the 37-man squad to tour Australia despite some stand-out performances for club and country earlier in the season.
O'Shea told Sky Sports: "He will get on with it like he always does - he missed out on the World Cup. Until you have Chris Robshaw in the group you are in, you don't know what you are missing. He has got a slight injury at the moment so we hope he is back next week for our semi-final."
A recent dip in form looks to have cost the back-rower a place on the plane, but O'Shea finds that decision hard to understand.
"He captained the England team that beat the All Blacks, captained four wins in a row in the Six Nations, he won two man-of-the-match awards.
"Disappointment down in Wales, but if you were judging it on the one game, after the Wales-Ireland game there would probably be no Welsh player in there. They had lost seven games in a row going into that.
"Sport is about the now and I am pretty disappointed for what he has done and achieved but there are outstanding players there and when it comes to it, it is that selection panel that makes the final call. Unfortunately for Chris."
However, O'Shea suspects that injuries in the touring party may yet see Robshaw play a part down under.
He added: "You don't wish anything but there are plenty of examples of players finally ending up in Test sides. It would be nice to think that there might be the odd person called out and Chris makes it, because we feel he deserves it."
