Robbie Deans: Australia's coach has been forced into making changes to his squad.
Australia's coach Robbie Deans has had to make three changes to his 25-man training squad ahead of this month's Test series against the British and Irish Lions
Melbourne Rebel Nick Phipps, Kane Douglas of the Waratahs and Western Force's Ben McCalman have been called up after injury forced Sitaleki Timani, Scott Higginbotham and Digby Ioane out of the squad.
Higginbotham left the field with a sore shoulder during his side's Super Rugby clash against Queensland Reds, but the Melbourne player has not ruled out being fit for the three-game series.
Meanwhile, NSW Waratah Timani sustained a broken thumb against Canterbury Crusaders on Friday and will undergo a scan to determine whether or not he will feature at any stage of the series.
Reds' back Ioane continues his rehabilitation from cartilage problems to his left knee.
Deans said: "Digby is unable to train. His focus is on getting his knee right, which is why we've chosen to bring him in anyway, so our medical staff can oversee the process."
Scrum-half Phipps was delighted to get the nod to join up with the Wallabies, although he will act as deputy for first choice Will Genia.
He said: "I guess, like every other player in the country, I'm desperate to have a crack at the Lions.
"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, one that a lot of players don't get." Source : http://www1.skysports.com/rugby-union/news/15175/8752439/Injury-forces-Aussie-coach-Robbie-Deans-to-make-squad-changes
