Harry Redknapp is still hoping to persuade Loic Remy to join QPR rather than Newcastle, according to Sky sources.

Marseille have given Remy permission to speak to Newcastle after agreeing a fee in the region of £8.3m for the striker, who has been monitored by a number of Premier League clubs.

Redknapp appeared resigned to missing out on the player after revealing at the weekend that he had failed to secure a meeting with Remy while in France.

"I went over last week to watch him, not that I needed to, as I watched him seven times when I was at Spurs. I couldn't even get a meeting with him," Redknapp said.

"I was hoping for a meeting with him to encourage him to come and he wasn't being disrespectful. I think he felt embarrassed coming to see me to say he wasn't interested in coming to QPR."

But it appears that Redknapp has not given up hope of snatching Remy from the clutches of Newcastle, where he is expected to hold talks later this week.

"We have an agreement with Newcastle for the transfer of Remy," announced Marseille president Vincent Labrune. "Loic can negotiate with them."

Arsenal and West Ham United have also been mooted as admirers of Remy, while Serie A side Napoli are understood to hold an interest.

Redknapp is also believed to have approached West Brom with offers for striker Peter Odemwingie and defender Jonas Olsson as he looks to strengthen his squad for a relegation dogfight.
