Juan Mata has told Rafa Benitez he is fit enough to keep playing despite reaching a landmark number of games at Norwich.

The Spaniard's Boxing Day appearance was his 29th of the season and a 50th in the Premier League since his arrival from Valencia in the summer of 2011.

Benitez has publicly claimed several players were overplayed by Roberto Di Matteo early in the season, but Mata continues to flourish and his winning goal at Carrow Road was a 13th in all competitions this term.

And he said: "I want to play more, I want to keep playing, keep training, keep enjoying this club and this Premier League.

"I'm very happy with how it's going - the season - for me and for the team and I just have to keep working."

Chelsea are on a three-match winning run in the Premier League and sit 11 points off the top with a game in hand on the teams above them.

Mata said: "These three points gave to us a lot of confidence to be closer to the Manchester clubs."
