John Mitchell: Short reign at Sale Sharks
Sale Sharks coach John Mitchell has reportedly quit the club following Friday's 33-27 victory over Worcester. The 48-year-old former New Zealand coach has been in charge of the Aviva Premiership strugglers for only a month after taking over on a deal until the end of the season. However, he now appears to have decided to make a quick return home to South Africa according to several reports on Saturday morning. Steve Diamond, Bryan Redpath and Pete Anglesea are expected to take over the coaching duties. Sale moved within one point of London Irish after securing their second win of the season against the Warriors at Salford City Stadium. Mitchell, who had a spell as player-coach with Sale during the late 1990s, had previously been helping out on a part-time consultancy basis. He left his position as head coach of Golden Lions in November after being cleared of misconduct charges by the South African club.
