Demba Ba: Escape clause in his Newcastle contract but is unlikely to join Chelsea
Demba Ba's representatives have told Sky Sports News that they do not expect the Newcastle striker to join Chelsea after an unproductive meeting on Sunday evening.
Chelsea officials held initial talks with the 27-year-old's representatives but were unable to reach an agreement on any potential deal.
Senegal international Ba has a £7m release clause in his Magpies contract which becomes active on Tuesday.
Ba, who joined Newcastle on a free transfer from West Ham in June 2011, has been in impressive form this season and already has 13 goals to his name.
The player's representatives are now expected to hold talks with other clubs as Newcastle boss Alan Pardew fights to keep the forward.
He has also been linked with Arsenal, Tottenham, QPR and French giants Paris Saint Germain.
Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez was asked about a possible move for Ba after the 2-1 win at Everton on Sunday, but he said: "We don't talk about this business, we had a very important game today."
