Manchester United on red alert as Ronaldo rejects new Real Madrid contract
Cristiano Ronaldo is set to rock Real Madrid by refusing to sign a new contract with the Spanish giants, paving the way for the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain to make a move.
Ronaldo’s contract at the Bernabeu runs until 2015, but his stay in Spain could be cut short if he declines a new contract offer, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
The Portuguese international admitted he was ‘sad’ at the beginning of this season, but had appeared to have settled down again.
But reports now suggest he has become demoralised with his portrayal in the Spanish media and wants the opportunity to win the coveted Ballon d’Or, but feels he will be unable to do so at Madrid.
The club have offered the 27-year-old a contract extension, which would keep him at the Bernabeu until 2018, with his wages increasing by 50 per cent to 15 million euros a year, but it remains unlikely the two parties will be able to strike a deal.
Both Manchester United and French side PSG are thought to be keen on Ronaldo’s signature and the former United player will be returning to his old club in the new year, when they face Real Madrid in the Champions League.
