(Photo: Ed Zurga, AP) KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On the eve of the NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs are negotiating with the Miami Dolphins to potentially trade franchise-tagged left tackle Branden Albert while also taking phone calls from teams inquiring about dealing for the No. 1 overall pick. "I got a few calls this morning and this afternoon," Chiefs general manager John Dorsey told USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday evening. Before Dorsey could even finish that sentence, his iPhone started to buzz. "And as you can see, here come some more," Dorsey said. "You have to explore every option, and that's what we're going to do." Dorsey and Kansas City head coach Andy Reid have settled on four players they are considering for the top pick, two each on offense and defense. But they're also mulling a move back should they receive an attractive enough trade offer. Dorsey said the team narrowed its list to four players more than a week ago. If he and Reid have a favorite among them, they aren't saying — not until their card is turned in Thursday evening. Even the players they might be targeting seem to be in the dark. "The anticipation is kind of killing me," Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher said Wednesday at a pre-draft event in New York. "As far as (the Chiefs) saying anything, no. "It's different. Last year, I'm pretty sure Andrew Luck and RGIII knew where they were going like a week before. ... I'm going into this blind like everybody else." VIDEOS: Draft needs for all 32 NFL teams Dorsey and Reid, hired in January to rebuild the Chiefs (2-14 in 2012), spent several hours in the draft room Wednesday morning staring at the team's board, poring over various first-round scenarios. "Each draft is different. This draft right here happens to have offensive linemen, defensive linemen, linebackers, corners," Dorsey said. "It's not sexy, but ... it has its strengths and weaknesses, and you act accordingly." Dorsey also spoke with the Dolphins on Wednesday morning, and he told USA TODAY Sports that talks were expected to continue into the evening about compensation that would potentially send Albert to Miami, which lost left tackle Jake Long to the St. Louis Rams in free agency. The Chiefs gave Albert and his agent permission to talk to the Dolphins last week. "I wouldn't be doing my due diligence if I didn't see what other teams had to offer us," Dorsey said. Dorsey and Reid say Albert's situation — and whether he remains a Chief by Thursday or not — would not impact the team's plan at No. 1. Albert will resist a move to right tackle to accommodate a rookie left tackle, even though Fisher and Texas A&M's Luke Joeckel appear to be prime candidates for the No. 1 selection. "You play the five best guys, that's what you do," Reid said of his offensive line. "It doesn't matter where they play." *** Follow Lindsay H.
