Norwich midfielder Leroy Fer has quickly learned that you have to make full use of any chances you get to win a game in England.

The summer signing made his Canaries debut in Saturday's disappointing 1-0 defeat at newly promoted Hull.

After heavy investment in the squad, with Fer joined by the likes of Gary Hooper, Martin Olsson and club-record signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Norwich have taken just a point from their opening two Barclays Premier League fixtures.

Next up for Chris Hughton's side is a home clash against SkyBet League Two side Bury in the Capital One Cup, with Fer learning what needs to be done to achieve success.

"My first game has taught me we have to create a lot of chances," he said.

"Against Hull we didn't really create so many chances and against 10 men, I think you have to have three or four 100 per cent chances, but we just didn't create them."

Holland international Fer was pleased with his fitness levels in what was his first game of the new season.

He is unlikely to feature against Bury, with Hughton set to make wholesale changes from the defeat at the KC Stadium.

But Fer, 23, is ready to adapt to the pace of the English game and, if selected, he will need to show he is picking it up quickly when Bury travel to Carrow Road.

"I think it's a really physical game here in the Premier League and a lot of up and down, up and down, defend and then attack," he added.
