Welcome to another session of Bracket Briefing, our attempt to provide you with essential information on the Big Dance — forecasting the Ali Farokhmaneshes before they spark the stunning upset we're talking about for days.

CINDERELLA WATCH: Does Florida Gulf Coast have what it takes?

LOOK BACK: The biggest "what ifs" in tournament history

The first word: In case you haven't been keeping tabs, the No. 12 seed in the South, Midwest and West regions have come out victorious in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The day after Pac-12 teams Oregon and California proved they deserved higher seeds, fellow No. 12 seed Ole Miss took down Wisconsin on Friday afternoon. VCU was the only No. 12 seed to advance, crushing a depleted Akron team.

Green light: Marshall Henderson took Wayne Gretzky's "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" motto to heart. After going 1-for-11 in the first half, Henderson kept shooting, finishing with 19 points. "I've never hated a guy with supreme confidence, but he has to back it up," analyst Charles Barkley said after the game. That's exactly what the trash-talking Henderson did in the second half when his long-range pull-ups started to fall.

Even LeBron James was impressed by Marshall Henderson's run-and-gun mentality. Wrote James on his Twitter account:

Man that dude Henderson from Ol Miss got the greenest light in basketball history!! Hahaha. —; LeBron James (@KingJames) March 22, 2013

What's happened: Three games are already in the books.

        — Duke 73, Albany 61. The Great Danes played the Blue Devils tight after falling into a 31-18 hole with four minutes left in the first half, but Duke had an answer for every Albany run over the game's final 30 minutes. The Blue Devils move on to meet the winner of Creighton and Cincinnati in the second round.

        — Mississippi 57, Wisconsin 46. Wisconsin held a 36-30 lead with 11:30 left in the second half. Then Marshall Henderson hit a three, cutting the Badgers' lead to 36-33, and the Rebels took off. Mississippi closed on a 27-10 run, beginning with Henderson's three, and moves to the round of 32.

In progress: Four afternoon games have yet to be decided.

        — No. 9 Temple vs. No. 8 N.C. State.

—No. 15 Pacific vs. No. 2 Miami (Fla.).

—No. 10 Cincinnati vs. No. 7 Creighton.

—No. 13 La Salle vs. No. 4 Kansas State.

On deck: Another two games tip off over the next hour.

—No. 16 James Madison vs. No. 1 Indiana (4:10 p.m., TBS).

—No. 10 Colorado vs. No. 7 Illinois (4:40 p.m., TNT).

Quote to note: "The University of Kansas and Lawrence was a great 15 years of my life. I've said it this way before: I gave my heart, body and soul for 15 years, and I loved it.

"It's not immoral to love two institutions. When I was a coach at Kansas, it was my favorite school. North Carolina was my second-favorite school. I happen to be coaching at North Carolina now, and it's my favorite school, and Kansas is my second-favorite school."

—North Carolina coach Roy Williams, who could face off against the Jayhawks in the round of 32.

ROUND TABLE: Duke coach pays North Carolina the highest compliment

The nightcap: Prepare for another eight games Friday evening to close the round of 64. For clarity, a three-star game means nothing else in your life matters. Two stars means you should put your cellphone on vibrate. One star means you can watch while folding your laundry. (All times Eastern.)

**You should probably watch**(South Regional) No. 15 Florida Gulf Coast vs. No. 2 Georgetown in Philadelphia, 6:50 p.m. (TBS): Could this end in an upset? Maybe? Noted college basketball expert Patrick Stevens thinks Florida Gulf Coast has a shot, and that's good enough for us.

**You should probably watch**(West Regional) No. 15 Iona vs. No. 2 Ohio State in Dayton, Oh., 7:15 p.m. (CBS): The Buckeyes can see a path to the Final Four. Iona isn't stopping OSU in the round of 64.

***Must watch***(South Regional) No. 9 Villanova vs. No. 8 North Carolina in Kansas City, Mo., 7:20 p.m. (TNT): The Tar Heels' No. 8 seed came as a surprise. Will the lower ranking give UNC the motivation to make a run at the Final Four?

*Life won't end if you miss this*(South Regional) No. 14 Northwestern State vs. No. 3 Florida in Austin, Tex., 7:27 p.m. (truTV): Florida's defense should suffocate the Demons into submission early. That would make coach Billy Donovan happy, but it won't make for must-see television.

**You should probably watch**(South Regional) No. 10 Oklahoma vs. No. 7 San Diego State in Philadelphia, 9:20 p.m. (TBS): In terms of experience, it's a mismatch. Although SDSU's roster has a combined 15 games of NCAA experience, Oklahoma's roster has only 12 minutes – all coming from forward Romero Osby, a transfer from Mississippi.

**You should probably watch**(West Regional) No. 10 Iowa State vs. No. 7 Notre Dame in Dayton, Oh., 9:45 p.m. (CBS): Notre Dame is the better seed, so we won't see those Day-Glo green jerseys hated by everyone from fans to President Obama.

*Life won't end if you miss this*(South Regional) No. 16 Western Kentucky vs. No. 1 Kansas in Kansas City, Mo., 9:50 p.m. (TNT): Western Kentucky might have more NCAA tournament pedigree than your typical No. 16 seed, but the Hilltoppers don't have the talent to run with Kansas.

***Must watch***(South Regional) No. 11 Minnesota vs. No. 6 UCLA in Austin, Tex., 9:57 p.m. (truTV): Could this be the final college game for UCLA guard Shabazz Muhammad?

Kickin' it old school: Let's go way back to 1981, when Arkansas' U.S. Reed (given name: Ulysses) nailed a 49-foot bomb at the buzzer to knock off Louisville, the defending champs, in the second round.
