Man City skipper Kompany moves to end Mancini row

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has made a bid to end his row with Roberto Mancini by declaring himself fit to return to action this weekend.

Kompany infuriated City boss Mancini by playing for Belgium in a World Cup qualifier against Macedonia on Tuesday even though he had been sidelined due to a calf problem for the previous eight weeks.

Mancini felt the 26-year-old was risking a recurrence of his injury and warned that players should understand there are some cases that the club is more important than international duty.

"For 60 days he didn't play for us and we did everything (to get him fit), then he went to play for the national team," Mancini said on Thursday.

"If he had got another injury - if on Saturday he is not ready to play because he was with the national team, and we lose him for another month, this is not correct."

But Kompany, whose potential comeback had already been put back several times by City, insisted prior to the game in Brussels that he was fully fit and he was quick to underline his availability for Saturday's Premier League clash against Newcastle.

Kompany, who last played for the champions in their FA Cup fourth round win at Stoke on January 26, on Friday tweeted a picture of his boots along with the caption: "They're ready to roll again! :-)"

The Belgian centre-back's presence is crucial for City as they try to overhaul Manchester United's 15-point lead at the top of the Premier League, while also focusing next month's FA Cup semi-final against United or Chelsea.
