MYERS, Fla. — Amanda Marcum Enfield does not want to become the next Katherine Webb. Been there, done that. Thanks but no thanks. RELATED: First FGCU student reflects on hoops progress EXPERT'S TAKE: Previewing the Sweet 16 games In an exclusive interview with USA TODAY Sports, the former supermodel — highlighted during the NCAA tournament's telecast last week grappling with her toddler son Marcum during a game in Philadelphia — has "mixed emotions'' about being in the spotlight again as the stunning spouse of Florida Gulf Coast University coach Andy Enfield. Webb — Miss Alabama USA, model and the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarren — parlayed a brief televised shot during a football game into her own cottage industry of instant fame and commercial gigs. (Thank you, Brent Musberger). But Amanda, 34, has no plans to capitalize on her re-discovered celebrity, perfectly content at being a stay-at-home mom to her three children, including daughters Aila, 6, and Lilly, 5. Marcum will be 2 next month. "I never expected this. I'm flattered, and I think it's great, but it's also kind of crazy to me,'' Amanda says. "I guess it's kind of cool but it's still a bit surreal to me.' The best part is seeing Andy and the players have their dreams actually come true. They are so happy.'' In case you think Amanda is merely saying the right thing, she is not. NCAA TOURNAMENT: Updated bracket RELATED: Florida Gulf Coast has 'won over the nation' "She's had a lot of attention the last week but she's a very humble person,'' says Andy, 43. "She keeps telling me, 'This isn't about me as the coach's wife. This is about something special going on with your team, the players and the university.' She says he is flattered by people saying nice things about her. Of course, in the internet age, some people make rude comments, too.'' A die-hard college basketball and football fan from Mustang, Okla., Amanda was a model in New York City when she was introduced to her future husband by a mutual friend en route to Boston for an NCAA regional tournament game that included Oklahoma State. They fell in love; Enfield often has told the story of planting an engagement ring inside a box of Krispy Kreme donuts. Amanda gave up her career after they married and moved to Tallahassee, Fla., where Enfield worked as a Seminole assistant for five seasons until Florida Gulf Coast hired him in 2011. "She was still in the prime of her modeling career,'' says the coach. "For her to give up that to be a coach's wife and have children is something in itself. She is an amazing (mother).'' The attention, he says, is rather amusing to the couple. "She understands her unique background,'' Andy says. "When you're on the cover of Maxim, and worked for Victoria's Secret, Armani and Tommy Hilfiger, it's out there on the internet. She's like me — we don't take things too seriously. We laughed when someone said (on-line), 'This is what happens when you're a great free-throw shooter.' They went on to bust about my appearance and, of course, played her up. It was comical.'' The leading scorer in Johns Hopkins history, Enfield set the NCAA record for free-throw percentage. Despite his new-found notoriety, the coach remains under no illusions. "I knew a long time ago that she was the better-looking one in the family,'' he says with a hearty laugh. FGCU COACH'S WIFE AND FORMER MODEL AMANDA MARCUM IN PHOTOS Story Highlights
